Travel Information

- From Athens International Airport to Patras City Center -

Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” is located 33km southeast of Athens and is easily accessible via “Attiki Odos”, a six-lane motorway constituting the Athens City Ring Road.

To get from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” to Patras City Center, there are the following options:

1. By bus (Recommended)

Take the bus line X93 (or E93) "KIFISOS INTERCITY BUS STATION – ATHENS AIRPORT EXPRESS" (you may also see “ST.YPER. LEOF. KIFISOY-AER\NAS ATHINON (EXPRESS)”) which connects the airport directly to the “Kifissos” central coach/bus station of Athens (KTEL). Average travelling time is 60 minutes and the ticket costs 6.00 €.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi from AIA "Eleftherios Venizelos" to the “Kifissos” central coach/bus station of Athens (KTEL). Taxis serve on a 24-hour basis. The route duration is approximately 30 minutes, and the cost is approximately 50.00 €.

When you get at the KTEL Kifissos bus station, you issue a ticket for a bus to Patras. Ask for an “express bus” (no intermediate stops), if available. Ordinary route is 3 hours to Patras Bus Terminal (KTEL); an express bus takes 2½ hours. Additional routes might be running, depending on traffic, so ask at the ticket booth. Ticket costs 20.70 €.

2. By train

Exit the main airport building and follow the signs to take the Suburban Rail “Proastiakos” to Kiato terminal station (Kiato). Due to the reconstruction of the Patras – Athens train line, the train operator TrainOSE does not provide direct services, but connects Patras and Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” by trains (one change) and buses. Trains to Kiato run approximately every one hour and the route duration is 1.5 h. At Kiato terminal station take the OSE bus to Patras Central Railway Station. The route duration is approximately 1.5 h. The exact timetables of trains (Athens-Airport-Athens & Airport - SKA - Airport Timetable + Athens-Kiato-Athens Timetable) and buses (Kiato-Patras-Kiato Buses timetable) and all relevant information are given at the Athens Suburban Railway webpage. The ticket cost is approximately 20.00 €.

3. By car

Several car rental companies currently operate at AIA "Eleftherios Venizelos" with offices located at the Arrivals level. The car rental area is within walking distance from the Main Terminal Building, located at the northern side of the building.

The main corridor providing access to AIA "Eleftherios Venizelos" is Attiki Odos, a high-speed 6-lane toll motorway, connecting Elefsina with the airport.

Take Attiki Odos highway from the AIA "Eleftherios Venizelos" towards Athens, and follow the signs to Elefsina. Stay on this course for ca 55 Km (this route bypasses Athens from the north side).

Start following the signs to Korinthos (do not take the exit to Elefsina, end of Attiki Odos and start of E94 highway). This course will bring you to the Toll Station at the entrance of the Athens - Korinhos - Patras Highway (E65 highway).

Cross the Toll Station and follow the signs to Korinthos for ca 55 Km. Just before reaching the exit to Korinthos, start following the signs to Patras. Stay on this course for ca 120 Km.

- From Patras City Center to Conference Venue (Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras) -

1. By bus

The “Line 6” bus to Rio, which leaves from the bus terminal that is located downtown, runs every ten to fifteen minutes and connects the University of Patras with the city. Since some buses go directly to the town of Rio, bypassing the campus, it is advisable to ask before boarding if the specific bus goes to “Panepistimio” (University). The ticket cost is 1.50 €/trip.

The International Conference will take place at the "Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras" which is the third spot on the map. The bus stops are the spots 1, 2 and 4. These are the main bus stops. However, you can ask the bus driver to make a stop at the Conference and Cultural Center (Synedriako Kentro).

2. By suburban railway

The Central Railway Station (OSE) is located in the city center. From the Central Railway Station there is the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) that runs every one hour and connects the city with Kastelokampos area, Rio and the University of Patras. The ticket cost is 1.40 €/trip.

The Patras suburban operates daily every 1 hour from 6:23 am until 23:23 in the evening. It connects the two edges of the city, from Agios Andreas (St. Andreas Church) to Rio and Agios Vasilios, offering fast and convenient transportation by skipping city traffic.

In cooperation with the City Bus Patras, with a single ticket, Proastiakos offers fast and economical move towards the University Campus, with transit through Kastelokampos. From Kastelokampos Railway Station, the bus takes the passengers to Hospital and University and vise versa. With Proastiakos the passenger has the possibility to carry also his bike.
